suspend reality for just a moment.
according to cnn,
“Bush has now tied Richard Nixon’s worst rating ever, taken in a poll
just before he resigned in 1975, and is only 2 points higher than the
worst presidential approval rating in history, Harry Truman’s 22
percent mark in February 1952,” says CNN Polling Director Keating
Holland.okay. stay with me.
let’s say that bush resigned tomorrow. cheney would be president, right?
*ugh.*
he’d technically be eligible for re-election, and would technically be the republican incumbent, correct?
can you IMAGINE that mess?
(the mind wanders in strange places on mondays …)

Oh dear.
A new can of worms.
Gross. This is gross.
Except I think Cheney’s approval rating is even lower than Bush’s… or has been historically.
Although if he were elected, he’d be the first president to have shot someone outside of war since Andrew Jackson.
He shouldn’t have been in there in the first place.
hahaha!
That would be quite funny…imagine the post xanga would have then….i almost, (almost) want to see it!!!!!
Oh dear God. I can’t discuss this because it disturbs me so!
that makes me want to run to my mom and cry.
They both will be gone from office soon, if not, then they need to be REMOVED from power.
Cheney sucks, haha.
You know that look that Butt-Head from Beavis &…would get when something was both completely appalling and stunning? Mouth sort half-hanging open? “Uuuuhhhh…” Yeah. That’s what I just did.
Oh god we’d be in a huge mess then.
that would be scary…hopefully they won’t read this. Hahaha
I can’t help but think back to that terrible day…it was 9/11/2001 and our world as Americans was in total chaos that morning. We looked to President Bush for leadership that day, and for protection…and he came through for us. I know there’ll be some of you that will want jump right up and make your snide, nasty comments about him right now because you aren’t even willing to give him the credit that he’s honestly due, but we were a family that day, and I’ll always be grateful that it was he that was at the helm that day. I honestly do not think that the other individual that had been in line for the Presidency could have made those quick decisions that were needed that morning to secure the safety of our Nation, such as closing down all air traffic in United States air space. That was a brilliant move and I wonder if any of you realize how quickly that was accomplished?
People that are watched, scrutinized, criticized and condemned must feel like hunted animals. I believe that President Bush is one of those individuals and I respect him so much for his intestinal fortitude and courage under such extreme pressure. Lesser individuals have cracked, gone on hiatus and disappeared, only to reappear bearing a beard and have all-the-sudden reappeared as the world’s foremost authority on global warming, culminating with the world communtity appeasing this manfor his failures in life by bribing him with a Nobel Peace Prize. One of the other nominees for the award was a woman who, in World War II, hid countless Jewish children whose parents were enroute to assorted concentration camps. This woman, with no thought for her own safety, found homes for these children, kept and hid records of the children in the hopes that the parents would miraculously survive the Holocaust and could somehow, someday be reunited with their children. That’s who I would have picked!
President Bush will probably never get credit for the good that he has done for this country, either. Some people are takers and some are givers and I will always be grateful that we had a steady man at the helm that day and not someone that would fall apart and run away to grow a beard! President Bush has given of himself and been available, while also being caring and compassionate. There was a time that these qualities were desirable, but now it seems that dishonesty is the soup du jour and that is a sad commentary on how American politics is developing.
@acushla712 - i’m not saying anything about president bush or his lack of leadership during september 11th. i, like you, believe he did an amazing job in initially handling the situation of in-our-own-backyard terrorism.
this was not a post calling for his resignation, but a “what would happen IF he did”, meaning cheney would be thrown in the mix of the already messy final days of the election.
@BarelyJen - Just what has Vice President Cheney done that has been so terrible? I believe, as witnessed especially in the current election and all the events leading up to it, that we will never again be able to rely on the mainstream media for truthful, unbiased, and fair reporting ever again. They have been given so much power that they have regularly equated ”freedom of speech” with “freedom to choose sides and sway public popularity,” thus placing an irremovable blot on honest journalism everywhere. In that light, Vice President Cheney, who at the outset of his service to our country as a Congressman, then White House Chief of Staff, followed by recurring times as Minority Whip, then Secretary of Defense and on to when he oversaw and directed the highly successful invasions of Panama and Operation Desert Storm, precipitating his being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, is now regular fodder for jokes. I realize that it’s popular to poke fun at the man, but I’d like to know specifically, what you think that Vice President Cheney has done that has been so detrimental to our country? If you could, try to think of something other than “the war” as an answer, because contrary to what popular media opinion polls may have informed the American people, our President and Vice President did not start this war–the terrorists did!
Thanks a lot…Cynde
@acushla712 - i didn’t say he did anything wrong … this is not a cheney-bashing post … and it definitely wasn’t written to be as deep as you took it.
my point was this: the election is already messy enough with the candidates we’ve got. it would be EVEN MESSIER if we threw another candidate in the mix — especially one that would have a “rightful” place in the election, should the proposed events occur. that’s all.
i can’t control the “cheney sucks” comments that were left in the blog.
(and if it’s the *ugh* part you’re referring to, that was simply because it’d be a major change in government a few mere months before it would change again.)
