  • weigh day. *your motivation accepted here*

i'm sure you probably heard, but i lost eight pounds. that's a HUGE number that i wasn't expecting — which goes to show that most of it was probably water weight. yes, i'm actively trying to lose, but i've never seen that much drop off in two weeks. CRAZY.

so, what AM i doing? let's see:

i bought a yoga ball. nope, i don't do yoga or anything, but i do stretches and sit-ups with it. last night, i did six MINUTES of sit-ups. i was in the zone and didn't stop. i hurt so bad today.

i walk some. i park a little further away from things, walk the building a little more, and take stairs when i can (most of the time). i'm trying to get the courage back up to go to the gym again. maybe later this week.

lots of water. i've got this nifty new water bottle that holds 32-oz. i go through three or four of those a day, at least.

watching what i eat. i'm not good at this, but i'm trying to be conscious of the little things: fried=bad, red meat sparingly, veggies good, and NO MORE PB&J sandwiches. (did you know that ONE sandwich is 430 calories? i was taking two for lunch in an attempt to save money. bad.)

fish oil capsules. bleh! i'm actually taking it for my severe dry eye, but apparently it could be considered a dietary supplement. the after-taste turns me off from food, so i guess it works.

healthyroads. each year, i get a nice stipend from work to go toward doctor visits. this year, we were told we had to enroll in one health-related program (of course, one they deem we qualify for) to keep the stipend for next year. healthyroads is what i qualified for. healthyroads is a weight loss and stress management program done via phone and internet. every week or two, my counselor calls and talks to me about my progress, current issues and future goals. this aspect is VERY new to my "regimen", but i thought i'd put it out there.

and perhaps the biggest help of all:

    meridia.
meridia is a doctor-prescribed weight loss drug that — in conjunction with a low-calorie diet and exercise — help people safely and effectively lose weight. i am very fortunate to have a doctor that really goes the extra mile for her patients. she gave me a free sample of the drug last year, and "magically" i lost 10 pounds. when it came time to actually prescribe it, however, i couldn't take it because of the cost. insurance doesn't cover it, and it was just way more than we were willing to invest at the time. since then, i have tried to do as much as i could "on my own," getting little to no result. last month, i decided to bite the bullet and pay for it. it has been the only thing that has produced actual results. (plus, the fact that i am paying for it is added motivation to stay on track.)

every day is a struggle, but i'm making it through. ideally, i'd like to lose 60 more pounds.

it's not a matter of "can" anymore ... i WILL do this.

I think so much of weight loss is that mental attitude that you are GOING TO lose weight!  And shedding the pounds is the ultimate motivation!  I used to park at the very end of every parking lot just so that I had no choice but to make the hike....sucks when it rains though!  YAY for weight loss!!!

You are doing such a great job and making some awesome changes!!!!!!!!!!!! I need to try to figure a way to stay motivated. My biggest problem...

I think some of it has to do with the beer drinking lately.  We have been doing so much work on the trailer that I just end up drinking a few and that is probably keeping me from losing ANY weight.  Ugh. I need to stick to some plan and stay with it.

I am so proud of you for this! You are doing an awesome job!!! 8 lbs in 2 weeks is just great!!!!!!!!!!!! keep it up!

Wow.. i'm impressed. really! I'm going to have to look into Meridia..that was quite a recommendation.

for the most part we do everything similarly i think.. although i go to the gym instead of working out at home. i haven't tried the fish oil stuff yet but have a jar at home. i've heard it makes you burp.. which doesn't appeal to me. haha.

@X_naomi_X - it does right after you take it ... but not an insane amount ... three or four times average (at least for me).

i've got serious issues with the gym. remind me to elaborate later. (lol, i've probably got oodles of old posts on it; i'll look and link)

Just a recommendation from someone who is doing his own body fitness thingy :P  Research into any body weight exercises you can and switch them up. My best example I use is three different type of push ups: Standard, wide, and diamond (which can also be good for abs if done correctly). I hit the gym every day to gain strength, but after I started doing body weight exercises at home, my cardio improved, strength, endurance, and what I think you are looking for... my body fat % dropped fast.

I was plateaued on my weight lifting and after doing this all my lifts went up, I gained 4lbs muscle and lost 2% body fat. So that would equal to probably 11lbs total in about 2 weeks. The yoga ball also has TONS of at home exercises from sit-ups, push-ups, rolls, etc. The best advice I can give is change up your exercise routine all the time. Everyday if you can. It keeps your body from becoming used to the standard repetitions (which is how come we can carry our body weight without getting immediately tired because our body has become efficient in the process).

    Good luck!
