i've shared with you my experiences with primary voting, caucusing and my final VOTE submission last week. i've discussed my thoughts on what obama's "change" means, and i'm all for it.
i've shared my thoughts on the issues before, but with a week to go until election day, i figured they'd be worth mentioning again. here are just a few.
obama:
strongly favors requiring the hiring of more women and minorities. as
a woman, this is uber-important. obama wants to fight job
discrimination to give women EQUAL footing at work. he wants to better
enforce our pay equity with the "equal pay act." i have experienced
first-hand that things just aren't as equal as they should or could be
for women. we get passed over for promotions and raises simply because
of our gender. i am more accomplished than some of my co-workers, but
because they are men, and have a "family" to provide for (read: no
kids), they get paid THOUSANDS more than me.
favors same-sex domestic partnership benefits. i
am PROUD to know several gays and lesbians — a few in my own family.
they deserve the same benefits of union between two people that i am
lucky to enjoy. "homosexuality is not a choice, and it's no more
immoral than heterosexuality." everyone deserves to have the same
opportunities, so this is something i am definitely standing behind.
strongly favors more federal funding for health coverage. obama
will make available a new national health plan to all Americans,
including the self-employed and small businesses, to buy affordable
health coverage that is similar to the plan available to members of
Congress. it is NOT required, but will be AVAILABLE. its features include: guaranteed
eligibility; comprehensive benefits; affordable premiums, co-pays and
deductibles; simplified paperwork and reined in health costs;
portability and choice; quality and efficiency.
strongly favors replacing coal and oil with alternatives. obama plans to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions 80% by 2050 by implementing an economy-wide cap-and-trade program. most importantly, he plans to CRACK DOWN ON EXCESSIVE ENERGY SPECULATION. why
did your gas prices DOUBLE since 2001? mostly because of the
speculators.
favors a woman's right to choose. i am not posting this stance to begin a debate on abortion. i DO NOT personally agree with abortion. it is not for me, and again i say, i am not pro-abortion. i am, however, all for giving a woman the right to choose,
and that's what obama is for, too. who are we to definitively cut off a
women's right to choose what is right for her? if she wants to abort
her unborn child, that is something she will have to live with the rest
of her life, and will have to answer to in Heaven. the reasons are her
own, the situations sometime extreme ... simply, it's not for us to
decide.
favors taking the US out of iraq. i
have had too many friends go overseas for months, if not years, at a
time. two, three, four tours in iraq, and there's no sign of it
stopping under the republican's "we're in it til we win it" mentality.
we need to get out. we are spending $12 BILLION dollars a month on the
war in iraq, and for what? you could give me half-assed answers, but no
one really knows anymore.
as i've said before, you can vote for whomever you want, as long as you're informed!
you wouldn't buy a car without researching it,
you wouldn't get married without getting to know the person first,
and you wouldn't take a job without learning about the company.
if you do, then it's your own fault, and you have no reason to complain.
(so yes, i'm retaining my right to bitch, thankyouverymuch.)
*bonus* check out portions of his nomination acceptance speech, his plan for America and the politics behind it here.
learn more about obama here and here. | learn more about mccain here. ( i'm equal opportunity)
(note: my information comes from campaign speeches, obama's official website and non-partisan ontheissues.org)
2) He doesn't count racist preachers, convicted felons, and domestic terrorists among "his good friends."
3) He is not a liberal socialist.
4) He doesn't take money from a man who's stated goal is to dismantle the Constitutional Republic this nation has been for the last 232 years and turn it into an "open society."
5) He is not a liberal socialist.
6) He doesn't want to cut and run in Iraq. I bled and sweat over there and know what is going on. Not going to attempt to argue with the brainwashed robots here that "fear neo-cons" or think that Saddam was a nice guy, so don't bother...
7) He is not a liberal socialist.
8) McCain hasn't said that he will cut the military and slow the development of any new defense systems, Obama has.
9) He is not a liberal socialist.
10) He doesn't think that the answer to the threats of terrorists, a resurgent Russia, and China can be solved by sitting down and talking about "feelings".
11) He is not a liberal socialist.
12) He doesn't suffer from a messiah complex.
13) He is not a liberal socialist.
14) He can talk without a teleprompter or script.
15) He is not a liberal socialist.
16) He actually has experience.
17) He is not a liberal socialist.
18) He has put his ass on the line for his country, he knows what it means to confront evil and not compromise, he has integrity.
19) He is not a liberal socialist.
20) And most importantly, HE IS NOT A LIBERAL SOCIALIST!
I'm not American but I'm impressed more with Obama, though my interest was distracted by Palin for a while xD
anyway, there's no need to argue too much about this thing...it will come and it will be gone for just past night..and after all next 4 years we will know if it's true or not or how much it's worth your vote!
anyway nice post :)
Dearest Jen- I applaud you for making an informed decision on your vote. I fully support your decision to vote on the platform that supports your daily belief. Hooray for you for being able to say *WHY* you're voting for this man. (The only real answer I've gotten so far is, "Um, because it's time for a change....?" I personally have disagreements with some of the viewpoints. While I realize there's alot of people who what the troops home immediately, so may of these troops are reenlisting just for the sake of getting redeployed ad continue the mission. Honestly, the *bulk* of the 12 million a month you quoted is just the dollar amount that these men and women get paid as average salary. Yes, there are some extra amenities given to them for their separation of family and friends. (They get free movie screenings, they're allowed one beer a night in the areas of Iraq and kuwait that allow alcohol. Probably the main difference between the 12 billion salary they get over there versus if they were home is how much more they could be putting into the economy if they were home. (which would help the economy, I'm sure) I'm glad you're so pleasant even when you disagree. ^_^
@life_by_us - you make me smile!!! thank you for respecting my decision ... i'm glad we're both keen on being informed!!
I agree. I suppose that's all I can say. I've gone over obama mccain obama mccain for months now and I'm starting to grow sick. I'm voting for Obama. I hope others decide to do the same after researching both candidates.
Now it's time for me to figure out who else I'm voting for in other parts of this election. (Other parts?! There are other parts?! shi...)
I am not American, but it would be McCain and Palin.
Nice to meet you Barely Jen
x
I don't like either candidate much. But I'd choose Obama.
I don't agree with the whole choice thing at all. I understand where people come from. But I think it's rediculous for her to have a choice to kill a child but the child doesn't have a choice to live or die. But I won't get much further into that.
I also don't agree with gays and lesbians getting married. That's just me though. I won't fight it and I don't hate them. There's just bigger issues I'd rather deal with or fight for than gays and lesbians marrying.
I'm totally for Obama too! I just agree with him on more issues than I do McCain. Although, I still think he should've picked Hilary as his VP Awesome post though!!
for abortion, i am for it, i would never get one, but back when roe vs. wade came into affect, woman were using coat hangers to remove unborn fetus', throwing themselfs down steps and having people punch them in the stomach, all to get rid of a baby. so i think every woman should have the choice on whether or not they want an abortion. if mccain would make abortion Illegal, woman would probably resort back to this.
great post on obama =] you better be voting in the election.
I respect your viewpoints on why you're voting for obama. But if he gets put in offfice our country as we know it will change drastically. For the worse. He doesn't give a rip about the people all he cares about is his own political gain and if that means total government control in EVERY aspect of our lives he'll do it. Higher taxes etc. etc. He's a liberal socialist and thats what they do. So if you want your rights and freedoms as an American citizen trampled on vote for obama. I for one prefer to have the government keep their noses out of my life and get back to what this country was founded on............... core Christian values and people in office that actually care about their country and the people that inhabit it.
Those reasons you're voting for this guy are the same reasons I'm not voting for him.
I'm voting for the badass fighter pilot and his hot Alaskan running mate. Yes, that sounds very superficial, but I don't feel like taking time to type out all the real reasons.
I think Mccain cares more about the people. He has more experience. Obama seems like a fake actor....which only seems too suiting for him since he has all of hollywoods vote. It's really superficial.
And I hope they dont pull the race card if he loses cause thats so damn annoying. I am Puerto Rican and have every color in my family. I could care less if Obama was green or yellow. I just dont like his ideals.
As for abortion....when should killing a child be a right anyway? I just had a baby, I suppose tossing her over some bridge because she cries too much and I want to go clubbing should be my right? Thats just horrible...basically murdering. Or even worse where Obama stands for when they baby thats about to be aborted is actually born alive....he's disgusting.@desertvet - You are so right its scary
Not taking money from PACs and lobbyists? Pure fiction.
k lady there must be something in the drinking water where you live. Don't worry "The anointed one" will get you into a proper place to live with his socialism while the rest of us pay for you to live in comfort. According to www.dictionary.com, the word socialism means

You know that Obama recently had a benefit dinner with all the celebs and the dinner plants costed more than 20 grand? where's that money going to go? Who knows if Obama wins we're screwed over big time. Socalized medicine kills. "Oh, the doctor won't see you now for that lump on your neck, come back in six months and we'll take a look at it." In three months they'll be burrying you in a closed coffin. Get a life lady YOU LIBERALS ARE SOOO IGNORANT!
but you look like one of those old cat ladies anyways...no wonder he has your vote...you even look like a liberal...
I don't know about everybody else but I'm ready for all of this to be over. I wish November would get here sooner so I don't have to listen to this anymore.
well i still dont know who to vote for at all i dont know much about mccain but obama is pretty good in my book, but still im undecided got any other good reasons why i should vote him because, the only thing i want in what u said is the women rights! and the healthcare, kuz its too damn expensive in this country you go to canada its free, its sickening watch the movie sicko with micheal moore you'll be supirsed, i reccommend it well ttyl ill add you to my friends because your pretty awesome and im pretty new to this. My names Kara.
here's one for you: ignorance. the state or fact of being ignorant; lack of knowledge, learning, information, etc.
clearly, i have taken the time to do my research on BOTH candidates, and for ME, i chose my candidate based on the KNOWLEDGE i gathered.
my choice may not be for you, but it doesn't have to be. that's the beauty of democracy.
@Shine_On_xoX - hi kara!! click around some of the links in the post above. you'll find information on both candidates — hopefully it'll help you on your quest!!
@ChristopherMcBreen - believe it or not, i'm TOTALLY ready for this to be over ...
You are so screwed up. Its ppl like you that are going to regret aiding screwed up losers like Barack Obama in ruining America. How can you endorse and support someone who wont even salute the flag of the country that he is running for President in? How dare you hold your head up high in public and call yourself an American. Ppl are going to be begging to have Bush back 3 months into Baracks 4 yrs as President. Under different circumstances it would be amusing to watch all you ppl change your tunes. But it wont be. It will be the saddest thing ever witnessed. And you will be helpless.
And the fact that you are proud to be acquainted, associated and related to gays and lesbians just proves my point. You are screwed up.
Go drink a bottle of Tabasco sauce through your nose. Or hang yourself. Anything.
@BarelyJen - kk thank you so much i will look into that later 2nite got lots of stuff to do!
I actually have to hand it to you, you are one of the best liberals i've talked to...good going lol...honestly, Barrack Obama scares me mostly because of what he's going to do to our country, which i will believe will cripple it, leaving the next generation to clean up our mistakes. If only people could see its not about which "political party" you belong to, its about whats morally right and morally wrong. I wish we could all come together and stop fighting about whose right and whose wrong because its not about that. Its about winning together.
