so i'm sitting here, innocently waiting for the season premiere of
the office to start, when my buddy
steve (at left) IMs me.
little did i know, our oft-lighthearted online conversations would wax political
(in record time, no less — he really cuts to the chase!)steve: hey
steve: question for you
jen: k
steve: what do you think of the big news about McCain stopping his campaign and postponing the debates for the economy crisis?
jen: i have too many thoughts on it, can't pin just one.
steve: what are those thoughts?
steve: i think it's kinda silly cuz you can't 100% focus on that one thing when there is alot of other issues that is as bad as the economy
jen: i have other
more pressing things on my mind and don't want to get into politics tonight.
jen: *pause*
jen: okay, so it's like showing up to the party late. up until a week or two ago, mccain said the
“fundamentals of our economy are strong” ... now that it's definitely failing, he wants to change his tune.
steve: yep, that is why i think this thing is all messed up and no one pins him for it
jen: in reality, i think he knows that his economic stances are weak. it seems that any excuse to push the debates back to give him more time to spin it is exactly what they'll do.
steve: yeah.

jen: to that end —
and this is directed to BOTH mccain and obama — they are active senators who chose to run for president. if they can't focus on the job they have,
why should we trust them with the job they want? i agree they need to do their job in washington, but i don't feel that postponing the debates will help them do that any better or faster. this is a critical time, and people need to hear what their plans are for the future.
steve: i agree, and this issue probably won't be solve so easily if they didn't solved it already
jen: this is their time to shine, and show that they can perform. this crisis has been YEARS in the making. they won't fix it tomorrow, this week, or even this year.
steve: yep.
jen: damn, i think we just wrote my next blog.
steve: hehe

i wish my IM friends would assist in my blogging. must be nice.
Eh... so many of my conversations evolve (or devolve depending on how you look at it) into talking about politics. You've gotta love it!
McCain is grandstanding because the economy is his last and best chance to catch Obama, short of a terrorist attack. It's the right political move. I just don't think he can be trusted in a bailout situation, though (cough KeatingFive cough).
Must. Not. Read. More. Politics.
Seems to me like Steve didn't really have much to say on the situation, you did most of the "chatting". Probably a good thing though since you posted it on your blog...
@danam08 - lol, he normally doesn't ... he's more of a thought starter than a discusser. he enjoys picking my brain at inopportune times
