According to AdAge.com, even popular “music” bands are feeling the wrath of the economy’s downturn. Sources close to Disney say the company, which recently offered buyouts to 600 executives at its U.S. theme-park division, has seriously considered targeting the heretofore immune “talent.” Specifically, says one such source, the company has been “taking a hard look at ‘right-sizing’ the Jonas Brothers” — three real-life brothers from New Jersey whose Disney Channel appearances and “Camp Rock” movie helped propel their albums and singles up the Billboard charts.
“If you’ve ever heard these guys live,” says the executive, who declined to go on the record because he’s not authorized to speak to the press, “it’s pretty clear singing isn’t necessarily their strong suit.” Their vocals, he points out, are electronically “enhanced” in the studio, “and it’d be just as easy to make two brothers sound as good — or as bad — as the three brothers sound now. It’s just a matter of twiddling some dials.” The real brand strength of the Jonas Brothers, notes the source, “is their cuteness — but, let’s face it, they’re not all equally cute.” As for their concert tours, “It’s all a blur anyway — it’s mostly about the light show — and the remaining two brothers probably can just jump around the stage more to compensate.” —portion of article from AdAge.comInteresting read for a Monday, to be sure. lol Fortunately my daughters are old enough to have missed the Jonas Brothers revolution. For them it was Backstreet Boys and N’SYNC. SHEESH! My story’s not getting any better, is it? I’ll stop there!

I don’t really care for the Jonas brothers, but I think it’s hilarious they’re considering dropping a brother. That’s just strange. I like the one in the middle. I like his hair and he doesn’t look arrogant like the one on the left.

I don’t know their names so I’m going to have to say the two on the left are the cutest. They should cut the one on the right.But the one in the middle is the cutest, I think. How shitty would it be to be told you aren’t cute enough to remain in the band. Ouch.
Joe is definitely the cutest. They would get rid of Kevin before anyone else, I think.

The problem is, Kevin is the cutest but he is the least arrogant, and he sings the least. They’d cut him first, no doubt.

@BarelyJen - I’ve never really listened to them either, but for me it’s more of a general hate for pop boy bands. Or Pop Disney bands. Or maybe just Pop bands.

I think Nick is frreaaaaking adorable. But that’s rather pedophil-ish of me to say, since I’m like, five years older than him. But still – obviously, they’re completely stinky singers and Disney grows them out of proportion. It’s ridiculous to think otherwise.
I’m over the ‘let’s push stupid teenagers into the media’ that Disney does so willingly.

@LAURAxLOU - I totally agree 100%! Sadly, a good friend of mine who is my age (25) is a huge fan of them. Ugh. Then again, she’s always been a fan of brotherly “pop” bands (Hanson, The Moffats, etc.), though i thought she would have grown out of it by now. I just don’t get their appeal.

I am torn between Nick and Joe.
that dude on the left has straight hair, whereas the two on the right have curly hair. plus he has gargantuan eyebrows. so i’m gonna assume the 12 year old girls like the one on the left.
I don’t have anything against any of them personally. I watched an interview of them on TV and they seemed reasonable.
There’s no accounting for taste either, so if you don’t enjoy their music, don’t listen to it or buy it. I think the bigger problem is when people conform to peer pressure and try to make their tastes conform to what they believe others like so they can become more likable.
As for the cuteness angle, I tend to like to separate what the musicians look like from what they sound like. Some bands might be more or less enjoyable live than their albums too.
It is a strange twist to consider literally splitting up a band of brothers in order to improve the bottom line. The positive thread seems to be that an anonymous source at Disney is more concerned about the quality of the product they’re producing rather than focusing their efforts on strong marketing to promote a shoddy product. Perhaps at some point this person will feel confident enough to use their real name indicating that Disney as a whole wants to focus on offering a better product rather than better advertising.
I’m not really into the Jonas Brothers. I listen to their music but I’m not a complete crazed fan. The youngest, Nick, is the cutest hands down and he’s also the one that writes most of the songs and does backup vocals. The oldest Kevin I think his name is is the one everyone says is the not so attractive one but he plays the bass or the electric guitar and Joe the middle one who dated Taylor Swift is also cute but he just sings and plays tambourine. Idk boy!
Ha…. to be honest, I know nothing about these boys. But that article was hilarious! I cannot believe anyone from Disney admitted that. :-
